The Launch of the Blue Sky Initiative
In an exciting development in the airline industry, United Airlines and JetBlue have recently linked their loyalty programs, creating a new partnership that enhances the travel experience for their customers. This collaboration, dubbed the “Blue Sky” initiative, allows members of both airlines to book award flights on either carrier, regardless of where the miles were originally accrued. This significant move aims to provide passengers with greater flexibility and options when planning their travels.

Benefits for Frequent Flyers
Members of United Airlines’ MileagePlus program will enjoy a range of perks when flying on JetBlue. These include priority baggage handling, expedited check-in, and security processes, as well as at least one complimentary checked bag. JetBlue’s TrueBlue members will receive similar advantages when flying with United, marking a noteworthy shift in how these two airlines serve their loyal customers.
Expanding Gateway Opportunities
This partnership also involves a gate exchange at key airports, enhancing connectivity for travelers. United will return to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) for the first time since 2015, utilizing JetBlue’s gates. Similarly, JetBlue will operate from certain United gates at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). This arrangement aims to provide seamless transfer options for international and domestic flights, thus expanding travel opportunities for all customers.
As United Airlines’ CEO, Scott Kirby, highlighted, the Blue Sky collaboration is designed to offer more value to MileagePlus members and create unique ways to use their hard-earned miles. With new routes and benefits, this partnership marks a significant leap for both airlines in delivering excellent service and connectivity to their customers.
