Introduction
Getting to Florida from New England is about to get a lot easier thanks to budget airline Breeze Airways. This expansion at Tweed-New Haven Airport in Connecticut will see Breeze Airways and Avelo Airlines going head-to-head, offering competitive services along the East Coast. Breeze Airways has just added Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) to its route map, which will launch nearly a dozen flights starting this winter.

Competition and Impact
The introduction of these routes is set to challenge Avelo Airlines, which has been the sole carrier at Tweed-New Haven Airport for nearly three years. More than half of Breeze’s new flights overlap with Avelo’s existing routes. This direct competition is expected to drive ticket prices even lower, benefiting travelers. Both Breeze and Avelo launched during the pandemic with a mission to connect smaller airports to popular destinations at lower costs.
Fleet and Quality of Service
Breeze Airways operates an all-new Airbus A220 fleet featuring domestic first-class recliner seats, while Avelo Airlines’ fleet consists of Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft with economy seating throughout the cabin. “From ‘day one’ our playbook has included significant growth across the Northeast region of the U.S. due to the high population density and limited nonstop travel options,” said Breeze’s Chief Commercial Officer, Lukas Johnson.
