Overview of Delta’s Limited-Time Promotion

Delta has announced a special promotion to help its loyal travelers attain Medallion Status. With only four months left in the year, this promotion offers SkyMiles members a unique opportunity to earn Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) through the Delta Travel Extras portal by booking car rentals, hotels, and vacation rentals.

How to Earn MQDs

Members can earn 1 MQD per dollar spent on eligible bookings made through the Delta Travel Extras portal after taxes and fees. Travel must be booked by September 30 and completed by October 31 to qualify for these MQD earnings. This promotion is separate from regular SkyMiles, although members will still earn a minimum of 2 SkyMiles per dollar spent on these bookings, which can be redeemed for future award flights. Please note, according to the airline, it can take up to eight weeks after travel completion to receive MQDs and SkyMiles.

Medallion Status Levels and Benefits

Delta offers four levels of elite status: Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. The following MQD thresholds are required to qualify:

• Silver Medallion – $6,000 MQDs
• Gold Medallion – $12,000 MQDs
• Platinum Medallion – $18,000 MQDs
• Diamond Medallion – $35,000 MQDs

Once achieved, travelers will enjoy status benefits for the remainder of the calendar year and the next full calendar year. Benefits can include waived baggage fees, priority customer service, and much more.

Additional Ways to Earn MQDs

Besides booking flights directly with Delta, members can accumulate MQDs by holding a Delta premium credit card, such as the Platinum or Reserve cards. These cards offer a $2,500 MQD headstart. Additionally, Delta Platinum cardholders earn 1 MQD per $20 spent on everyday purchases, while Delta Reserve cardholders earn 1 MQD per $10 spent.

For example, if a traveler books a weeklong vacation rental home for $3,000 through Delta Travel Extras, they will earn 3,000 MQDs. That single booking can substantially help in reaching the Silver Medallion threshold, enhancing the travel experience with various perks and privileges.
