According to analysis from home experts at Cinch Home Services, homeowners in the Mountain State enjoy the lowest annual housing expenses in the nation. Homeowners in West Virginia retain an impressive 76.6 percent of their take-home pay after housing costs, equating to a remarkable $47,500 remaining annually. However, it is crucial to note that West Virginia also has the lowest take-home salary in the U.S., sitting 27.4 percent below the national average.

Financial Breakdown and Regional Insights

The study reveals that typical homeowners in West Virginia spend approximately $2,458 on maintenance, $888 on property taxes, and $11,160 on mortgages, bringing total housing costs to $14,506—53 percent below the national average. Notably, the state’s homeownership rates are the highest in the country, with average home values at $167,282, significantly lower than the national average of $361,282. Despite the overall affordability, certain regions, such as the eastern panhandle, are experiencing price rises due to increased demand from urbanites and remote workers.
