Introduction to Disney’s Expansion

Disney has unveiled exciting plans at the D23 event this weekend for a significant expansion of its cruise line fleet. The company announced the addition of four new ships, increasing the total fleet size to thirteen. These new vessels are anticipated to set sail between 2027 and 2031. Although specifics about their names, designs, and sailing routes are still under development, the announcement underscores Disney’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its cruise line offerings.

Upcoming Additions to the Fleet

Currently, Disney Cruise Line operates five ships. In addition, several new ships are already in the pipeline. Among them is the Disney Destiny, which is scheduled to launch in 2025. The Disney Destiny will flaunt a unique heroes and villains theme and offer innovative dining experiences, including a ‘The Lion King’-themed restaurant. Guests at the restaurant will enjoy windows transitioning from sunrise to sunset, African drum-tiered risers, live performers, and beloved songs like ‘Circle of Life’ and ‘Hakuna Matata’.

Debut of the Disney Treasure

Another exciting development is the upcoming debut of the Disney Treasure, set to embark on its maiden voyage later this year. Over the weekend, Disney executive D’Amaro shared captivating details about a new onboard stage production inspired by ‘Moana.’ This show will feature a spectacular 15-foot-tall puppet of the character te kā, praised by D’Amaro as the largest ever created for a Disney Cruise Line show.
