Introduction to the Touchless ID Program
Loyal American Airlines passengers will soon experience a more efficient way to navigate airport security. The airline has announced its participation in the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) precheck touchless ID program, which uses facial recognition technology to streamline the identity verification process.
How the Program Works
This innovative program allows travelers to pass through security without the need to present their boarding pass or identification. Instead, a live photo is taken at the airport, which is then matched against a pre-existing photo that passengers have already provided to the government, such as for a passport or visa. Participation in this program is optional, and travelers can choose to go through standard identity verification with a TSA officer if they prefer.
Benefits for American Airlines Passengers
To enroll in the touchless ID program, American Airlines travelers must opt-in and provide their AAdvantage number, valid U.S. passport information, and known traveler number. Kim Cisek, the Vice President of Customer Experience at American Airlines, emphasized that the airline’s goal is to enhance the travel experience. “Introducing this option will help customers move more seamlessly from the airport lobby through TSA security to enjoy the next step in their travel,” she stated.
As implementation progresses, American Airlines will provide updates on the specific airports where this service will be available, further enhancing the travel experience for its loyal customers. Current users of this program include other major airlines such as Delta and United, which have rolled out similar services at several airports nationwide, marking a significant shift towards a more convenient airport journey.
