Rocky Gap State Park, nestled in the heart of Maryland, serves as a year-round destination for outdoor enthusiasts. A Community Effort
The inception of Rocky Gap State Park is a testament to the dedication of the local community. Initiated by the Lions Club and supported by a volunteer group known as the Route 40 Business Association, the park was established through the unwavering commitment of its members. Edward Habeeb, the association’s president, was a pivotal figure in founding the park, which opened on July 17, 1974. In honor of his contributions, the park’s 243-acre Lake Habeeb boasts some of the bluest waters in the state.
