Edelweiss Introduces New Flight Routes

Flying from the West Coast to Switzerland is about to get remarkably easier. Edelweiss, a Swiss airline owned by Lufthansa, recently announced new twice-weekly flights from Seattle’s SeaTac Airport to Zurich Airport. These flights will operate every Monday and Saturday, departing Seattle at 4:25 p.m. and arriving in Zurich at 11:45 a.m. the following day. The return route from Zurich to Seattle will follow the same schedule.

Expansion Beyond Seattle

This new Seattle route adds to Edelweiss’s existing operations in Denver, Las Vegas, and Tampa Bay, Florida. Starting June 2, 2025, West Coast travelers will have an opportunity to explore the hiking and picturesque landscapes of Switzerland and surrounding areas during the summer months. From Zurich, passengers have the option to stay in Switzerland’s largest city or connect to over 90 destinations that Edelweiss serves, including Agadir in Morocco and Bari in Italy. The airline also operates flights to destinations throughout Croatia, France, Greece, Ireland, Spain, and Turkey.

Additional Routes and Services

Edelweiss will also initiate a new route from Halifax, Nova Scotia, to Zurich on July 3, 2025. Tickets for both new routes were not immediately available for purchase on Edelweiss’s website at the time of announcement. According to Edelweiss CEO Bernd Bauer, “This nonstop service offers a convenient link to Zurich, at the heart of Europe, while also bringing a significant number of Swiss travelers to Seattle and the Pacific Northwest.”

Enhanced In-flight Experience

Described as Switzerland’s leisure airline, Edelweiss provides various in-flight experiences, including business class, economy max, and economy class. For the new Seattle to Zurich route, Edelweiss will operate the Airbus A340-300, which accommodates 214 passengers, comprising 27 lie-flat business class seats. The economy cabin is outfitted with an 11.1-inch high-definition touchscreen entertainment system offering over 250 pieces of content to watch. Edelweiss, owned by Lufthansa Group, is a sister airline of Swiss International Airlines and continues to grow as international travel demand surges, with 2.7 million passengers flown in 2023, up from 2.2 million in 2022.
