Free Rides to the Beach on NJ Transit

This Labor Day holiday weekend, New Jersey Transit is making it easier for residents and visitors to get to the beach by offering free tickets for all customers. From August 26 to September 2, the transit system will offer free fares on all lines and modes of transportation, making it more convenient for beachgoers and travelers to enjoy the long weekend.

Expanding Opportunities for Travelers

The free fares initiative aims to encourage more people to use public transportation and explore various destinations across New Jersey and beyond. Travelers can ride the North Jersey Coast Line to popular beach towns such as Asbury Park, Belmar, and Point Pleasant. Additionally, the Atlantic City Line offers a direct route to Atlantic City, extending from Philadelphia down to near the boardwalk.

Governor’s Statement and Additional Benefits

New Jersey’s Governor Phil Murphy emphasized the importance of providing this fare holiday in light of the many disruptions faced by commuters this summer. “Understanding that our commuters have faced many disruptions this summer, we are providing a one-week fare holiday for NJ Transit riders,” he stated. He also thanked the residents who rely on public transit and encouraged them to take advantage of this opportunity.

NJ Transit is not limited to beach destinations. The Main Line and Bergen Line offer a gateway to upstate New York, where travelers can explore Harriman State Park or shop at the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets, which houses over 250 stores. In addition to free rides, travelers with a monthly August pass will receive a 25 percent discount on their September pass. This discount comes as a token of appreciation for the commuters’ patience during service disruptions caused by summer heatwaves and system malfunctions.
