Norwegian Cruise Line’s New Homeport
Norwegian Cruise Line recently announced that it will make Philadelphia its new homeport starting in 2026. This move marks the first time in years that a passenger cruise line will sail from the city. The inaugural voyage is set for April 16, 2026, embarking from the Southport Marine Terminal Complex.
Exciting Destinations Await
From Philadelphia, Norwegian will offer seven to nine-day sailings to Bermuda aboard the Norwegian Jewel. In the fall, the company plans to expand its itineraries to include 10 and 11-day journeys to Canada and New England. These cruises will run through October 17, 2026, providing a variety of travel options for passengers.
A Revamped Norwegian Jewel
The Norwegian Jewel, which was refurbished in 2022, will be the first ship to sail from Philadelphia. The ship can accommodate 2,330 passengers and boasts a range of amenities, including Le Cirque Bijou shows and a 1950’s-themed bar overlooking the pool. The bar features classic car parts and old gas station signage, adding a nostalgic touch to the cruising experience.
Impact on Philadelphia’s Waterfront
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro emphasized that the new cruises will attract millions of visitors to Philadelphia’s waterfront. This initiative not only boosts tourism but also provides residents and travelers from the region with another reason to explore the city’s maritime offerings.
Expansion Beyond Philadelphia
This isn’t the only new homeport for Norwegian Cruise Line. Starting in November 2025, the company will also sail from Jacksonville, Florida. These cruises will travel to destinations such as St. Thomas, St. John’s in the U.S. Virgin Islands, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the company’s private island in the Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay.
With these new homeports, Norwegian Cruise Line is set to offer even more exciting travel opportunities for passengers along the East Coast.
