Record-Breaking Travel Days Ahead

As thousands prepare to travel, passengers using Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) are advised to take precautions due to an expected surge in traveler volume. This weekend, the airport will facilitate significant traffic spikes linked to two major sporting events: the Formula 1 race and an SEC football game.

Arrive Early for Your Flight

AUS has specifically noted that from Thursday, October 17, to Tuesday, October 22, will be marked by record-breaking passenger activity. They recommend that passengers arrive at least two and a half hours prior to domestic flights and three hours for international flights, to counteract congestion and long wait times.

Consider Alternative Routes and Checkpoints

Furthermore, the airport is undergoing major construction, which has led to the closure of security checkpoint 3 until 2026. Travelers are encouraged to utilize checkpoint 2 west, which provides eight security lanes for TSA Precheck, CLEAR, and priority screening. With the likelihood of heavy traffic on roadways surrounding the airport due to event visitors, planning ahead will make a substantial difference in streamlining your travel experience.
