Maui, Hawaii: Tropical Honeymoon in the US

Maui is the Hawaiian island that has everything: Beautiful beaches, unique attractions, fantastic hotels, and the sweet smell of tropical flowers perfume it all.
The isle exudes romance- peppered with fairy-tale resorts, top-rated restaurants, idyllic beaches, and countless other earthly pleasures

The Kaanapali, Wailea, and Kapalua beach areas all have exceptionally fine hotels. Yet on this special occasion, you owe it to yourselves to begin your honeymoon with a drive so beautiful, it’s practically hallucinogenic. About 60 miles long, stretching from Kahului (where the airport is) to the town of Hana, the Hana Highway has 617 hairpin curves and 59 single-lane bridges. Along the way are exhilarating waterfalls, farmers’ fields, cliff-top vistas, and roadside stands selling freshly cut pineapple.

At the end of the journey, you’ll reach the all-inclusive Travaasa Hana, the top boutique hotel and the top experiential retreat . If you don’t have time for the drive, you can take a 20-minute flight from Kahului Airport.

Discover the things to do on a Maui honeymoon.
1. Indulge in a couples massage.
There’s hardly a better way to kick off a Maui honeymoon than with a relaxing couples massage. While the island is home to its fair share of luxury spas, few facilities outshine those at the Spa Montage Kapalua Bay. Following a soak in a coconut milk bath, couples receive a massage in one of the spa’s lovely outdoor treatment rooms.

2.Picnic with Alpacas
Home to a crew of alpacas and angora bunnies, Maui Alpaca hosts ultra-unique picnics that animal-loving couples will adore. In addition to meeting the alpacas and feeding them snacks, guests are treated to a tasty, Instagram-worthy picnic on the Upcountry slopes and will learn all about the animals and their uses.

3. Watch the sunrise from Haleakala.
Haleakala boasts the most celebrated sunrise view in Hawaii, and a visit to the summit in the pre-dawn hours graces most Maui itineraries. However, there’s no doubt that the morning spectacle is best shared, and watching the sunrise over Haleakala’s eastern wall is a memory that you and your partner will cherish for a lifetime. Plus, the freezing temps all but require bundling up together.

4. Wander the grounds at Aliʻi Kula Lavender Farm.
A stroll through the grounds reveals thousands of lavender plants (55,000, to be exact), proteas, olive trees, hydrangeas, and scarlet ohia lehua blooms. Mosey over to the gift shop, where you’ll immediately be lulled into a lavender-induced state of relaxation. Grab some heavenly lavender-infused snacks (like a lavender scone or lavender brownie) and head out onto the patio, where you and your partner can bask in the stunning views before you.

5. Take a leisurely sunset sail.
Few things say romance like a sunset on the water. However, add a catamaran, live music, champagne, and a fantastic dinner into the equation, and the experience is significantly elevated. Climb aboard Kai Kanani, one of Maui’s most reputable sailing catamarans. With a three-course meal, open bar, hospitable service, and a sunset champagne toast

6. Tour the island in a helicopter.
Helicopter tours allow passengers to lay eyes on Maui’s most dramatic, isolated locales, like Honokohau Falls deep within the West Maui Mountains and the depths of the Ko’olau Forest Reserve in East Maui. However, Maui Helicopter Tours knows how to make the experience extra special, especially for couples celebrating recent nuptials. Many run spectacular excursion tours sharing the entire island with stops mid-flight to land in the verdant Upcountry hills. When you disembark the chopper to enjoy your private view, you’ll be offered a complimentary glass of champagne.

7. Attend a luau.
Attending a luau is part of the quintessential Hawaiian experience. However, some luaus are more romantic than others, namely, the Feast at Mokapu. Hosted by the Andaz, the Feast at Mokapu is redefining the luau experience. Once characterized by subpar buffets, hundreds of guests, and stories from around Polynesia, the luau at the Feast of Mokapu is an intimate culinary experience with Hawaii-specific entertainment. With an open bar, a delightful three-course plated meal, and a stunning oceanfront location, the Feast at Mokapu is an ideal introduction to Hawaiian culture and makes for a fabulous honeymoon date.

8. Take a day trip to Lanai.
Buttery strips of golden sand, swaying palm tree groves, crystal blue waters set against rusty red sea cliffs, and a thriving dolphin population- a visit to Lana’i feels more like a dream than reality. However, a day trip to the Pineapple Isle is not only possible, but it’s also easy. While there is a ferry that runs from Lahaina to Lanai several times daily, the easiest way to experience the best of Lanai is with Trilogy.

9. Book a honeymoon surf lesson package.
Couples who surf together stay together. Take to the waves with your partner for a Maui honeymoon surf experience with Maui Surfer Girls. The package comes complete with all the gear for first-time surfers, a seasoned instructor to guide you through the process, and a personal photographer to capture the best moments of the day. What’s more, you’ll also be gifted a bottle of champagne or sparkling cider to celebrate learning a new skill as newlyweds.
