Gas Prices on the Decline
Gas prices across the U.S. have finally reached a remarkable low, standing at an average of $3.03 per gallon this week. This marks the lowest price for gas in three years, providing an excellent opportunity for travelers gearing up for holiday road trips. The national average hasn’t dipped below $3 since May 2021, and experts suggest it might fall even further soon.
States with the Cheapest Gas
According to AAA, 32 states currently boast gas prices that are either below or well below the $3 mark. Both Ohio and Delaware lead the nation with an average price of $2.89 per gallon. Following closely are Georgia and Virginia, with averages of $2.91 and $2.92 respectively. Notably, Hockley County in Texas holds the record for the lowest county average at just $2.30 per gallon.
Comparative Costs for Electric Vehicles
While many rejoice in the falling gas prices, electric vehicle owners should consider the costs of charging. The national average for a kilowatt of electricity at public EV charging stations stands at 34 cents. Hawaii, however, is the most expensive state for charging, with a rate of 56 cents per kilowatt hour. Thus, travelers hitting the road this winter should be mindful of how battery performance can be affected by colder weather.
