Introduction to Passport Fairs

As September marks the beginning of National Passport Month, the U.S. State Department has announced an updated schedule of passport fairs to assist first-time international travelers. These events are designed to simplify the application process for those seeking their initial passport, providing a valuable opportunity for applicants across various states.

Schedule of Upcoming Events

The newly released schedule for September and October includes passport fairs in multiple states, including California, Georgia, New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Notable events feature the Seattle Passport Agency, which will be open on Saturday, September 28, from 9 AM to 2 PM, a rare weekend opening. Other locations hosting fairs include the Boston Passport Agency on September 26 and the Atlanta Passport Agency on September 28, making it more convenient for applicants to access services without missing work or school.

Who Should Attend the Fairs?

These passport fairs are solely for individuals applying for their first passport. It is essential to note that no appointment is required for renewal applications. For those needing to renew, the State Department has rolled out new online tools to streamline the process. Moreover, current processing times have improved significantly; expedited service now takes only 2-3 weeks, while routine processing is estimated at 6-8 weeks. This marks a substantial reduction from the delays that plagued the agency during the peak challenges of the pandemic.
