Navigating the New Changes to United Airlines Club Access

Recent Changes to United Club Membership

United Airlines has made significant adjustments to its United Club access policies, impacting travelers who frequently utilize its lounges. As indicated in a recent customer email, the airline will be increasing membership fees and modifying access provisions, aiming to enhance the premium experience offered in its lounges.

Membership Costs and Benefits

The new individual membership plan is now priced at $750 or 94,000 miles, which exclusively grants access to the United Club for one member. For those who wish to enjoy more extensive access, the all-access tier is available for $1,400 or 175,000 miles. This option allows unlimited United Club access for the member and two guests, along with entry to Star Alliance lounges worldwide.

Impact of the Updated Policies

A notable alteration in the membership structure is the removal of guest privileges from the main membership, along with access to partner lounges like those in Amsterdam (AMS) and Paris (CDG). Current cardholders should note that membership still allows guest access and accommodates dependents under 18, but this benefit will be available only until their current subscriptions expire. Feedback from travelers has been mixed; while some lament the significant price hike, others believe the restrictions may alleviate overcrowding in lounges.

As the airline industry continues to evolve, lounge access remains a contentious issue, particularly highlighted by recent changes from other airlines like Delta. Travelers are advised to closely evaluate their options regarding lounge memberships in light of these new United Airlines policies.
