Updates to Southwest’s Loyalty Program
Southwest Airlines has recently made exciting announcements regarding its loyalty program that will significantly benefit frequent flyers. Starting in 2025, the airline will implement changes that create new opportunities for travelers to earn loyalty status. These changes are part of Southwest’s ongoing efforts to enhance the customer experience.
Cash and Points Program Evolution
One of the pivotal adjustments is the introduction of loyalty points for cash payments in the cash and points booking system. Originally launched in May 2024, this program allowed customers to use cash in conjunction with points for ticket purchases. Previously, travelers could not earn Rapid Rewards points when using cash towards a mileage ticket. However, this new enhancement means that, beginning January 1, 2025, points will now be earned on the cash portion of these redemptions.
Perks for Frequent Flyers
The updates don’t stop there. Cash payments will also contribute towards the thresholds needed to achieve A-List and A-List Preferred statuses. A-List status, requiring either 20 one-way flights or 35,000 loyalty points, includes benefits like priority boarding and 25% earning bonuses. For those aiming for A-List Preferred, which requires 40 flights or 70,000 points, additional perks such as complimentary inflight internet and premium drinks await.
Moreover, cash payments made for cash points tickets will count towards earning the highly coveted Companion Pass, further enriching the travel experience for Southwest loyalists. This shift represents a commitment by Southwest Airlines to continually reimagine its loyalty offerings, ensuring that members enjoy substantial rewards as they travel.
