Top-Ranked Airlines for Safety
As we look to the skies in 2025, safety remains a paramount concern for travelers. This year, Air New Zealand has once again claimed the title of the safest full-service airline in the world, maintaining its prestigious position for a second consecutive year. The airline has consistently excelled in safety rankings over the years, demonstrating a commitment to operational excellence.
Close Competition for the Title
In a tight race, Australian counterpart Qantas secured the second spot, finishing just 1.50 points behind Air New Zealand. “It was extremely close again between Air New Zealand and Qantas for first place,” said Sharon Petersen, CEO of AirlineRatings.com. Notably, both airlines uphold the highest safety standards, but Air New Zealand edges out due to having a younger fleet.
Other Leading Airlines
Tied for third place are respected carriers Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways, and Emirates, whose safety metrics proved indistinguishable. Petersen noted that their scores were identical due to factors such as fleet age, pilot skill, and overall safety practices. Rounding out the top five are Virgin Australia and Etihad Airways.
Among U.S. carriers, Alaska Airlines was the highest ranked, coming in at number nine, followed by Hawaiian Airlines at twelfth, and American Airlines at thirteenth. These rankings were compiled based on various safety-related criteria, covering incidents over the last two years and fleet assessments.
