Delray Beach: An Award-Winning Destination
A beach getaway always sounds like a lovely idea. The soft crashing of the waves, the gentle sea breeze, and the warm sand beneath your toes is without question an inviting scene. If you’re having trouble figuring out which beach to visit next, consider Delray Beach in Florida, an exceptional choice recognized for its pristine condition.
Recognition and Awards
In 2023, Delray Beach earned the prestigious Blue Flag, a designation awarded to beaches, marinas, and tourism boats that meet and maintain a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility criteria. This recognition was repeated in 2024, making Delray Beach one of only two beaches in the U.S. to earn this honor and the sole beach along the East Coast to do so.
A Word from the Mayor
“With the Atlantic Ocean at our doorstep, Delray Beach is proud to have a beautiful, world-class beach to call our own,” stated Shelly Petrolia, Delray’s mayor, in 2023. “I am especially grateful for the dedicated individuals who have put so much effort into ensuring that our natural beach is safe, accessible, and that beachgoers are educated about our conservation initiatives.”
Activities and Amenities
Along the 1.5-mile stretch of beach, travelers can find plenty of space to lay out on the golden sand, sunbathe, or swim under the watchful eye of local lifeguards. Recreational areas are available for paddleball, kite flying, or frisbee. Additionally, Oceanside Beach Service offers rentals for chairs, umbrellas, or cabanas. The beach also provides four beach-ready wheelchairs for those needing additional assistance.
While Westward Beach in Malibu, California is the other U.S. beach to earn the Blue Flag, if you seek more Blue Flag beaches, consider Spain, which boasts 639 Blue Flag beaches, the most of any country worldwide.
