Delta Announces Schedule Changes
This fall, Delta Air Lines is making significant adjustments to its flight schedule out of New York City. The airline will cut three routes and add one new route, a Delta spokesperson has confirmed. These changes will impact flights from both LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), connecting to various destinations.
New Route Addition
Starting October 7th, Delta will launch a new flight route between LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport (CHA) in Tennessee. This route was previously operated but was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The flights will resume with a starting price of $224 one-way, as per a Google Flights search. The daily flights will be operated on a 76-seat CRJ-900 aircraft. Notably, there are currently no other non-stop routes from Chattanooga to New York City.
Routes Being Cut
On October 8th, Delta will end its service between LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and Connecticut’s Bradley International Airport (BDL). Later in the month, on October 26th, the airline will also cease flights between JFK and both Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) and Montreal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL). These cuts are part of Delta’s seasonal schedule adjustments aimed to re-allocate resources according to demand.
The Larger Context
These schedule changes come at a time when Delta is recovering from a recent operational crisis. The CrowdStrike IT meltdown forced the airline to cancel thousands of flights. Delta has promised to reimburse affected travelers for any additional expenses they incurred, including costs for alternative flights, rental cars, or hotels. The latest adjustments aim to better align Delta’s resources with customer demand and continue to provide reliable service.
